The clean lines of this sofa and pouf, with their restrained upholstery and stylized legs, exude aristocratic elegance. Carles Riart used his innovative Vallvidrera design as the inspiration for these more formal pieces. You can see at a glance that it is an outstanding sofa. "I work on a 1:1 scale, and my sketches are not plans but the original itself", says Riart. The Salvador, named for the original owner, is not only superbly functional but also a beautiful objet d'art. Its large, graceful proportions are a hallmark of Riart's work.

The high back provides excellent support. The arms curve outward to show off the elegant upholstery, which can be one colour or two-toned. The Salvador pouf makes a feature of its seams. The slightly angled legs and generously proportioned frame give the piece a solid, patrician air. This sofa and pouf date from the period when Carles Riart produced custom-made "furnishings" for a number of public and private spaces.

Each piece was specifically designed for a particular use and interior, down to the last detail. The Salvador chair and pouf were produced for the home of Salvador Pedreño, a house punctuated by large, open spaces, furnished with pieces that are at once functional and unique, typifying the exquisite elegance of Carles Riart's work.
