Zaha Hadid Aqua Table

The Aqua table is a large scale dining/conference table with an enigmatic and liquid form. The user is invited to explore the forces of motion that created a form which seems to blur the relationship between its horizontal top and vertical legs. The three blisters bulging out to form legs below the table surface register as indentations at the top surface.

The Aqua table is an organic body flowing within space. Rather than being static, it implies motion by adopting the dynamic gestures of liquid to form a continuous surface. The asymmetrical, irregular tabletop’s varying edges creates an ergonomic solid that offers endless relationship possibilities with its user and its environment.

The translucent silicon gel of the tabletop has a smooth surface with three deformities on its lower side. Gradual alterations in the colour of the tabletop reflect these deformities creating a surreal visual effect that draws us to explore the difference between the actual/perceived depth of the pad.

The table consists of two material elements: a lower structural body made from polyester and a silicon gel top with a tactile non-slip surface.
