This Spring at the ICFF in NYC, North Carolina based Skram Furniture Company is set to debut an assortment of new items by lead designer A. Jacob Marks. Among these are two new additions to the company’s Neutral Series—the Neutral Trestle Table and the Neutral #2 Arm and Side Chairs. The items boldly underline Skram’s mission to craft approachable modern furniture of unparalleled workmanship.

First launched at the 2008 ICFF in New York, the Neutral Series is a collection of ecologically responsible solid wood furniture characterized by Marks’ distinctive aesthetic but with a heightened focus on economy. Neutral furniture is positioned as an entry-level option for budget-minded clients who value Skram’s commitment to authentic materials, understated design, and top-notch quality.
“With Neutral”, explains Marks, “I wanted to do something restrained but not simplistic, relaxed but still refined.”

The Trestle Table, a modern rethinking of an ancient form, continues Neutral’s exploration of utilitarian elegance. The Table features 100% solid wood construction, double mortise-and-tenon joinery, and a commercial-grade non-toxic finish. Perfect as a family-style dining piece, a work table, or a commercial gathering space, the Trestle is intended for everyday use in a broad range of contexts, from the dining room to the conference room.
“The Trestle Table is a chameleon,” says Marks. “Against a modern backdrop, the piece achieves an avant-garde aesthetic. Yet, in a more traditional setting, the table’s historical reference in both form and function lends a casual, intimate presence.”
As both complement and contrast to the Trestle, the Neutral #2 Chair is a graceful, slender addition to Skram’s seating collection, intended for use either with other Neutral dining pieces or independently. Loosely inspired by the trim lines of Gio Ponti’s Superleggera chair and by mid-century Danish design, the Neutral #2 stands apart as a work of functional beauty. The solid timber chair features mortise-and-tenon joinery and a traditional, hand-woven shaker tape seat. It is ergonomically designed for maximum comfort.

At the New York product launch, the Neutral #2 Chair will be shown in both its armchair and side chair iterations, along side the Neutral Series Trestle Table and the Neutral Bench. The Trestle Table and Bench are each available in three standard widths: 72”, 84” or 100” for the Table and 66”, 78”, and 94” for the Bench.

In addition, the Trestle Table may be specified with an optional extension table configuration. All Neutral Series furniture may be ordered as shown in ebonized white ash, or in any of Skram’s solid timber options. Like most Skram furniture, the items are customizable in material and scale.
