Rietveld never named his designs and most were named at a later date after the client for whom they were made. This garden bench from 1936 was designed for the Hillebrandt family, for whom he had previously designed a house in The Hague. The original version of the bench was painted white, with the lower part of the legs painted black in order to conceal any traces of dirt. The bench, which has good proportions and a good seating angle, is also very comfortable without cushions.

The Hillebrandt bench is made of untreated FSC-certified Louro Gamela timber (Wana).
