Erwan Bouroullec and Ronan Bouroullec L‘oiseau
L‘Oiseau, the representation of a bird in repose, was designed initially as a non- commissioned work in their studio. Ronan Bouroullec describes the inspiration behind it: “We have always been fascinated by animal figures, from the primitive to the contemporary, from bears made of walrus tooth to blown glass birds from Finland. It may no longer seem modern to deal with these themes, but we think that particularly in our current era it is important to further expand this symbolic realm of beasts creatively.” Shaped from maple wood and gently smoothed, L‘Oiseau conjures the clarity of the wooden objects of Nordic folk art. L‘Oiseau adds a sympathetic note to modern interiors without being at all cutesy or kitschy like many other animal figures.
