Claudio Bellini DS 6 Seating Collection

The seat of this rectangular, sober and down-to-earth sofa system from Claudio Bellini moves with the smooth softness of an undulating wave.

It is easy to imagine Ernest Hemingway sinking comfortably into the DS 6 and at once harking to the siren call of paradise deep in the blood. Onda - the wave - is the affectionate name given to it by its designer: it calms the body and seduces the senses with the back and forth of an emotional seesaw.

For with each successful attempt to create an item of furniture, we engender a new facet of society and urban life en miniature. This sofa from Bellini does indeed have the grand geste of the monumental while at the same time evincing a sensuousness to which we all are prey. While the DS 6 sofa system is uncompromisingly radical, it adheres strictly to an elementary geometry.

There is every likelihood that Max Frisch's "Love of Geometry" in some wondrous way guided Bellini's hand as he sketched his concept. Seated deep in the DS 6, you feel quite clearly how the frothy joy of the moment may on occasion spray high and dazzling above the sea of workaday care.
